Design Process

We follow a creative, collaborative and ordered process to allow each project to achieve its full potential. We strive to include the client each step of the way. The following descriptions address the most common design stages. The design process is both fluid and complex and can involve many more stages and services than are listed here. Contact us with any questions you may have, and we will be happy to discuss how we can help.

Visioning

In the early stages of the design, we work with the client to understand the scope of the project and how we can bring value to the end result. By working together, we gain an understanding of how the landscape will be used and what the client hopes to achieve. This process is extremely important to the final result.

Site Analysis

The importance of thorough site analysis cannot be overstated. This includes gaining a complete understanding of the site topography, ecology and hydrology as well as the existing utilities, zoning requirements and surrounding community. With this knowledge in hand, the designers can make informed decisions for site planning.

Conceptual Design

With the knowledge gained from the visioning and site analysis stages, Blue Mountain designers create two to three options for the conceptual landscape plan. This gives the client choices for how the landscape can be laid out, and often, the final result will be a composite plan including elements from each of the options.

Construction Drawings

For projects which need detailed construction drawings, Blue Mountain Design Studio will complete a full package of site, material, layout, planting and detail drawings as required for the contractor to complete the project according to the design intent.

Construction Administration

For projects in which Blue Mountain is not the contractor, we can serve as agents of the client, overseeing construction and verifying that the project is proceeding according to the design intent.
